Alex Lau pulls off stunning upset in first round of British Open 2023

    23 Apr 2023

Alex Lau, Hong Kong's No.1 squash player and HKFC Elite Player, has made a strong start to the British Open 2023 by pulling off a stunning upset in the first round. Lau defeated Shahjahan Khan, the US No.1 player and World Ranking 33, in a closely contested match that saw him win by a scoreline of 10-12,11-8,11-7,7-11,11-3.

In the upcoming rounds, Lau will face tough competition from some of the world's best squash players. He is set to play Mohamed ElSherbini in the next round of the tournament, which will take place at 7:45 pm HKT on 10/4.

Lau's victory is a significant achievement for himself and the HKFC squash community, as it demonstrates local players' depth of talent and competitiveness on the international stage. Lau has long been regarded as one of Hong Kong's most promising squash players, and this win is a testament to his skill, determination, and hard work.

Congratulations to Alex Lau on this fantastic achievement, and thank you for representing Hong Kong with such skill and excellence on the world stage. We look forward to cheering you on for the rest of the tournament.
