HKFC Players feature for Hong Kong China U18 Sevens Squad

    16 Oct 2024

Hong Kong Football Club (HKFC) was proud to have 10 up-and-coming young talents selected to represent Hong Kong China U18s in the Asia Rugby Emirates U18 Sevens Championships 2024. The tournament took place on 28th & 29th September in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

For the boys’ squad, Liam Gordon and Theodore Sun Seigrist featured. The girls’ squad saw an even stronger HKFC presence, with eight Club members making the cut. The selected players were Sophie Aranha, Lela El-Asmar, Sara Harries, Jasmine Lea Fitzhenry, Elsie Hulme, Beca John, Saidhb Martin and Lizzie Stanton.

Hong Kong China’s boys’ team faced tough competition in Pool B, with matches scheduled against Chinese Taipei, Thailand and Sri Lanka before being seeded into play-off matches. After a scare against Sri Lanka on Day 1 (17-17), the boys bounced back on day 2 to top the pool. They were outmatched in the final, however, losing to a strong UAE team.

The girls’ team, competing in a single pool format, took on Thailand, UAE, India, Singapore and Malaysia over the two-day event before their respective play-off match. The girls won 4 of their 5 pool matches to make it to the final, where they successfully beat Thailand by 31-5. Sophie Aranha was the top try scorer of the tournament, scoring 11 tries across the 2 days.

Congratulations to our up-and-coming HKFC talents!
