Hong Kong Golf Societies Par-3 Cup

    06 Nov 2020

The Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club Hong Kong - Academy Course
    Friday 30th October, 2020

The HKFCGS had 2 teams of 4 players selected to enter into the inaugural Hong Kong Golf Societies Par-3 Cup held on the Academy Course at The Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club Hong Kong on Friday 30th October, 2020.

It is an interesting and attractive short 6-hole layout, each a Par-3 (Par-18), which we went around three times (Par-54). We hit from three different length tee boxes each time around (Gold, Silver and Bronze tees), with a maximum 8-iron being used by most players. For those who had not previously played the course, we had to get used to the artificial tees, bunkers and greens pretty quickly, especially the slick greens!

We were blessed with sunshine and low humidity on this scenic and undulating links layout, which runs along the seashore. A gentle although swirling coastal breeze kept us cool and focused. The main concept of the competition was to have fun against a music backdrop being blasted out by a DJ on the front lawn of the club. The ‘80’s music got my vote (I’m giving my age away!).

Congrats to both HKFCGS teams - Team 1 (Andrew Wood, Frankie Fang, Jenny Chapman and Justin Faulkner) and Team 2 (JP Cuvelier, Eric Desgouttes, Darren McEntee and Graeme Brechin) who both finished well placed with a scoring system of team combined (best 3 stableford scores from 4). The winners were The HK Seniors GS bagging an incredible 152 points, with WAGS following closely in 2nd place on 151 points!

A great inaugural event, which was oversubscribed and very social. One of our players came away with a 3rd place lucky draw prize. Golf was the winner. Well played HKFCGS.
