    HKFC Squash Bootcamp

    19 May 2020

    An Ode to Bootcamp

    By Rob ‘Baseball’ Jones

There once was a squash coach named Phil, who was an expert in the art of the drill

He set up a squash course called Bootcamp, with the goal of finding a squash champ

It started early in the day, well before work was under way

We ghosted, we sprinted, and with new shots we experimented

Phil also made us run and run, until our legs were done

He would keep up a fast pace, and he would measure our speed and make us race

Although we all tried our best, after some time bootcamp was stopped as we all needed a rest

A squash coach named Carmen resurrected the event, and we turned up again, on and on it went

Because of the early start, there were only a few of us willing to take part

Those of us who managed to wake up and join the fun, thoroughly enjoyed exercising before the rise of the sun

And there were a number of players who made us smile, feeling pain all the while

Such as the masters phenom who had few hairs, but more than beers, loved running the stairs

And the masters player who limped off after each session, and returned weekly for another lesson

Of course we also had a few younger guys, who seemed like professionals in disguise

And occasionally we would get a new face, but they would never return after they realized they were in the wrong place

During the coronavirus we were thought we were safe, but Carmen took us outside to another place

And for the first time it was held at night, under the stars and moonlight

Oh yes bootcamp is real, there’s nobody like coaches Carmen and Phil

We look forward to every week, and don’t mind losing sleep

Please have a look at the accompanying pics, set your alarms and join in the mix!
